Jasmin Jorias
Mezzo-Soprano
Behind every character lies a story. I am drawn to what remains unspoken.
In the 2025/26 season, Jasmin Jorias continues her artistic work in the dramatic mezzo-soprano repertoire with several major projects.
She makes her debut with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and appears for the first time under the baton of Fabio Luisi in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8.
In Basel, she performs Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the Basel Symphony Orchestra under Markus Poschner.
At Theater Basel, she once again takes on the role of Leokadja Begbick in Brecht/Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny — a role she has shaped over time and which forms a central part of her repertoire.
Since March 2025, Jasmin Etezadzadeh has performed under the stage name Jasmin Jorias.
“Overwhelming – Jasmin Etezadzadeh’s monologue marks a spectacular debut as Waltraute. One immediately wants to hear more Wagner from this singer.” BZ Basel, October 7, 2024 (K. Singer)

In the past season, she made her debut there as Waltraute in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and also appeared as the Second Norn. She had previously performed Waltraute in Die Walküre and covered the role of Fricka in both Das Rheingold and Die Walküre. Her recent roles include Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, La Donna in Nono’s Intolleranza (Opera Vlaanderen, Ghent), and Bobin in the world premiere of Pferd frisst Hut by Herbert Grönemeyer (directed by Herbert Fritsch), which was also presented at the Ruhrtriennale in 2024. Guest engagements have taken her to Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Köln, and Opera Vlaanderen, as well as to the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest under Frank Ollu, and to Copenhagen with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi. Her repertoire includes roles such as Herodias (Salome), Kabanicha (Káťa Kabanová), Leokadja Begbick (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), the Mother (Il prigioniero), Brigitta (Die tote Stadt), the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), and the Old Lady (Candide). In the concert repertoire, she performs, among others, Mahler’s Symphonies No. 3 and No. 8. Alongside her operatic career, Jasmin Jorias is also active as an author and director. Her children’s piece Trudi die Geiss, reisst aus! premiered at Theater Basel in 2022 and ran for three seasons; a sequel, Trudi die Geiss, taucht ab!, will follow in the upcoming season. A particular focus of her work lies in contemporary music, including productions such as 22,13 by Marc André (Munich Biennale, Festival d’Automne Paris), as well as works by Judith Weir and Franz Hummel. A world premiere by Asia Ahmetjanova is scheduled for October 2026. Before beginning her vocal studies, which she completed in 2009, she trained as an actress. During her studies, she was a member of the Young Ensemble at Staatstheater Mainz for six years and appeared in numerous productions at Oper Frankfurt.
